Day 2: Bangkok
Today, you’ll have an early start to witness the early-morning chanting of the resident monks at Wat Pho (chanting starts at 09:00AM). After this stirring experience, you’ll have the chance to stroll through the temple grounds and view the impressive, gold-gilded reclining Buddha, which stretches 45 meters long. Next, you’ll continue to Thailand’s most iconic landmark, the Grand Palace, where you can marvel at the grandeur of the throne halls and view the Emerald Buddha, Thailand’s most revered Buddha image.
A lunch of sumptuous Thai cuisine will be served at the stylish Supatra River House.
After lunch, board a traditional long-tail boat for a private, 2-hour cruise along the Chao Phraya, also known as the River of Kings. You’ll also explore the quiet klongs (canals), where you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a more traditional time, unhurried and far removed from Bangkok’s skyscrapers. You’ll stop at the unique, pyramid-like Temple of Dawn (aka Wat Arun), one of Bangkok’s most prominent landmarks.
Next, we’ll drive you to Chinatown to begin a fascinating walking tour through one of Bangkok’s oldest quarters. As you stroll along Yaowarat Road, stop at interesting shops selling shark fins and bird’s nests. Continue walking to a traditional teashop and sip a cup of tea along with the locals before walking down the narrow alley of Trok Leng Moi Eia to Talad Kao, a lively local market where vendors sell all manner of fresh produce, Chinese herbs and spices. End the walk at Wat Leng Nei Yee, the largest Chinese Mahayana Buddhist temple in Bangkok. If you wish, visit the nearby Taoist temple. After returning to your hotel, the rest of the afternoon is free to spend at your leisure.

Ascend to the temple’s upper levels (also known as the Golden Mount) for panoramic views over Rattanakosin Island accompanied by the chimes of hundreds of small temple bells.
Next, go for a relaxing drive through Bangkok’s historically rich neighborhoods, passing some beautiful landmarks and temples along the way. We’ll stop to buy a “Sangkatarn” offering—a bucket filled with food and necessities for monks—a special kind of offering that we will bring to the resident monks of Wat Ratchabophit. We’ll wrap up the tour at the Tiger God Shrine, an imposing edifice and one of the oldest Taoist temples in Bangkok. The shrine is considered the most popular place of worship among Thailand’s Chinese community.

After your ceremony, it’s time to celebrate! Enjoy a delicious khao soy lunch—Northern Thailand’s signature dish of coconut curry noodles—at the Lanna house. Your meal will be served in exclusively designed khao soy sets of eight ceramic condiment dishes arranged around a large khao soy bowl.
