When it comes to planning any vacation, it can be hard to decide upon the most crucial factor: destination!
Here are our ‘Top 5’ destination recommendations for spending Christmas in Thailand from our Travel Specialist Pornsurang Siriwandee, better known as Khun ‘A’.
A relatively unspoiled, pristine island, Koh Kood isn’t the easiest to reach which has both advantages and drawbacks. Far from being a ‘party island’, the sublime white sands and clear waters of Kood are more suited to romantic breaks or family vacations away from the fire dances and raucous bars. The long journey is certainly worth the effort though, and we’d recommend ‘going luxury’ at the Soneva Kiri by Six Senses – a stunning 5-star hotel with 27 secluded villas and its own private airport.
Although the ‘Pearl of the Andaman’ will be busy during the Christmas period, the clear advantage of it being Thailand’s biggest island is that there’s an abundance of choice, including a variety of ‘style’ of beach to pick from. We’d still recommend booking early to take advantage of the best choices, but we can advise you on the perfect beach, depending on what you’re looking for. No matter which beach you pick on Phuket, they all offer clear skies and crystal clear water during December.
One of Thailand’s southernmost islands, Koh Lipe can be discovered close to the Thai-Malaysia border in the Andaman Sea. Lipe is tiny, which makes booking early essential simply due to a limited amount of rooms on the island. It’s that exclusivity that makes the island a dream destination for some however, so if you’re looking for your own private paradise for a romantic festive escape, then this gem of an island surrounded by spectacular coral reefs should be one of the first you consider.
Krabi Province is one of Thailand’s most scenic regions offering spectacular and dramatic scenery, a long, enchanting coastline with countless beaches and an eclectic mixture of dreamy islands just off the shore. Krabi’s stunning landscapes are easy to access and the province provides excellent options for outdoor enthusiasts, romantic couples and fun-loving families alike.
Koh Phi Phi Don
Perhaps the most famous island in the Land of Smiles, Phi Phi Don is the inhabited island next to the protected Phi Phi Lee (made famous by that Di Caprio movie). Found far from the mainland, Phi Phi Don has been built up since the sadness of the tsunami of 2004 but one can still find boutique luxury such as the luxurious Zeavoloa on the northern tip of the pristine island. Again, during the Western holiday period Phi Phi Don will be rather busy, so best to book as far in advance as possible!
The Backyard Conclusion
Many have an image that Thailand’s dream destinations are packed with wonderful places to stay. While that’s the case, the premium hotels in sought-after locations always fill up fast and tend to get more expensive the later you leave your booking.
Our local Travel Specialists can help you secure your accommodation, but we always advise to make your inquiries as far in advance as possible – firstly to avoid disappointment, and secondly to save money!
Khun A also recommends sticking to the west of the Thai peninsula if you’re thinking of the southern islands during Christmas, as those to the east (Koh Samui, Koh Phangnan and Koh Tao) will all still be experiencing the end of the rainy season.
If you’re planning your Christmas vacation anywhere in Asia, our locally based Travel Specialists are available to help you plan a tailor-made trip that’s 100% fitted to your aspirations. Simply send them an inquiry and they’ll help you make your dreams become reality!
