Yangon is one of Maeve Nolan’s favorite cities in Asia and the Backyard Travel General Manager recently returned from a trip to Myanmar’s most eclectic city. There she went on a walking tour and took some wonderful photographs which really give a wonderful sense of this atmospheric city.
“Yangon is a city packed full of rich history and culture. It’s a diverse melting pot of different races and religions and to get a real sense of the city’s unique identity I decided to go on a walking tour through the city, taking pictures along the way. Here is a small selection of my photographs which I hope give a small sense of the uniqueness of Yangon, from different cuisines to its ‘west-meets-east’ feel.”
“A local man in the traditional longyi, worn by most men in Yangon”
“Herbs, spices and other more unique remedies were on sale at this market stall”.
“A baby with thanaka applied to her face; used by men and women of all ages in Myanmar.”
“There are many Indian influences in Myanmar cuisine, like the samosa’s sold by this woman on the side of the street”
“Spanners, saws, hammers and more. I liked the way everything was so neatly displayed at this store.”
Maeve took part in a guided walking tour of Yangon which is a wonderful way to experience local customs and the hustle and bustle of Yangon. Contact one of our Yangon based expert Travel Specialists who will be able to include a walking tour to your tailor-made Myanmar holiday.
