Cycle from Sapa to Hanoi. You’ll ride to high mountain passes, through magnificent countryside, stunning valleys, gorges and hill tribe villages. Home stay with a village family and enjoy a home cooked dinner and traditional dance performance, learning about the local culture along the way

Upon arrival, enjoy a short tour of Hanoi, taking in the atmosphere of the capital. In the evening receive a pre-trip briefing before enjoying a traditional Vietnamese dinner. Transfer by overnight train to Lao Cai and ride through villages, browsing the local markets. Ride to the highest mountain pass in Northern Vietnam.

Start cycling from Tam Duong, you can choose either to take a car to the top or to do the ascent yourself. Ride to Lai Chau through the magnificent countryside and valleys of the area. Cycle through a lush landscape of bamboo, bananas and ferns to the site of a famous victory against occupying French forces. Ride downhill through quiet back roads and past scenic gorges. Do a challenging 12km climb followed by a 14km descent.

Ride to the village of Son La through some of the most stunning scenery in Vietnam, passing through the White Hmong hill tribe village of Thuan Chau where locals can be seen in their traditional black headdress. Traverse a plateau of tea plantations and peach orchards to a home stay family and enjoy a delicious home cooked dinner and traditional dance performance.

  • Start
  • Day 1: Hanoi-Night train-Sapa

    Take a short tour of the capital, visiting Vietnam’s first university which operated for an amazing 700 years. Or pay a visit to the father of modern Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum. Amble around the Old Quarter’s ’36 streets’, taking in the atmosphere.

    In the evening you will receive a pre-trip briefing before going to one of Hanoi’s top restaurants for a traditional Vietnamese dinner. After dinner, transfer to the train station and your comfortable four-berth sleeping cabin.

  • Day 2: Sapa

    Arrive at the village of Lao Cai early in the morning. After breakfast, ride down to Sapa through the villages of Matra and Taphin. Back in Sapa, take a look around and browse the markets.Cycling: approximately 20km

  • Day 3: Sapa-Tam Duong

    This morning we ride up to the highest mountain pass in Northern Vietnam, Heaven’s Gate. It is an intense ride which will reward you with stunning views of Mt. Fansipan, Indochina’s highest peak.

    Continue through Hoang Lien Son National Park until it descends down to Than Uyen Valley, where we will take a picnic lunch. After lunch we cycle through more lovely scenery to the town of Tam Duong.Cycling: approximately 95km

  • Day 4: Tam Duong-Lai Chau

    Start cycling from Tam Duong. The ride gets more difficult after 10km and after this stage you can choose either to take a car to the top or to do the ascent yourself. The afternoon’s ride is to Lai Chau through its magnificent countryside and valley.Cycling: approximately 105km

  • Day 5: Lai Chau-Dien Bien Phu

    Cycle today through a lush landscape of bamboo, bananas and ferns to the city of Dien Bien Phu, the site of a famous victory against the occupying French forces.Cycling: approximately 90km

  • Day 6: Dien Bien Phu

    Today the riding is gentler than the past three days. We’ll ride mostly downhill through quiet back roads and past scenic gorges to the town of Tuan Giao.Cycling: approximately 80km

  • Day 7: Tuan Giao-Son La

    Today’s ride is a challenging 12km climb followed by a 14km descent. Head to the village of Son La through some of the most stunning scenery in Vietnam. Pass through the White Hmong hill tribe village of Thuan Chau where locals can be seen wearing their traditional black headdress.Cycling: approximately 90km

  • Day 8: Son La-Moc Chau

    The ride today is less hilly than yesterday’s. We start from the hotel and head for the town of Moc Chau, famous for its milk cake and tea products. Take a stop for lunch in the town of Yen Chau.Cycling: approximately 120km

  • Day 9: Mai Chau

    Most of today’s riding is downhill. Cross a plateau of tea plantations and peach orchards to the lovely valley village of Pom Coong where you will meet your home stay family.

    Enjoy a delicious home cooked dinner in the evening and be entertained with a traditional dance performance. You can also sample some of the best rice wine in Vietnam here.

  • Day 10: Mai Chau-Hoa Binh-Hanoi

    We cycle down to the end of our bike journey at Hoa Binh city, via the town of Muongkhen. After lunch at a local restaurant, we will take 2.5 the hour drive back to Hanoi, where the rest of your afternoon is free at leisure.

    Head out to another great Hanoi restaurant for a delicious farewell dinner.Cycling: approximately 65km
