Thailand is a country famed for its cooking, and Isaan food—the cuisine of the northeast—ranks right up there with some of the best in the nation. On this local, immersive culinary tour, we’ll explore not only the flavors of Isaan, but also quaint villages and the most important cultural sites. You’ll enjoy meeting locals on the way, being welcomed into their homes and having families cook you their special dishes.
Starting in Bangkok, a scenic mountain drive will bring you to Korat, the gateway to Isaan. Before you take your first taste of local Isaan food, a stop at the largest Angkorian temple in Thailand will introduce you to the ancient history of this region. Then, it’s on to Isaan’s wine country, where you’ll indulge in a wine tasting with a local expert right in a vineyard.
You’ll also be on the trail of dinosaur bones, artisan silk, and sprawling local markets crammed with spices, produce, flowers and trinkets all specific to the region. Along the way, we’ll continue to sample the local delicacies that Isaan is famous for, such as roast chicken, fermented pork, papaya salad and Isaan sausage. You’ll also have the chance to spend one unforgettable night at an eco- and community-minded village homestay, where you’ll immerse yourself in quiet local life and perhaps even help your hosts cook. When you leave Isaan, indelible memories of this wonderful country’s people, flavors and colors will be yours to keep forever.
