  • Day 2: Bangkok

Today, you’ll have an early start to witness the early-morning chanting of the resident monks at Wat Pho (chanting starts at 09:00AM). After this stirring experience, you’ll have the chance to stroll through the temple grounds and view the impressive, gold-gilded reclining Buddha, which stretches 45 meters long. Next, you’ll continue to Thailand’s most iconic landmark, the Grand Palace, where you can marvel at the grandeur of the throne halls and view the Emerald Buddha, Thailand’s most revered Buddha image.

A lunch of sumptuous Thai cuisine will be served at the stylish Supatra River House.

After lunch, board a traditional long-tail boat for a private, 2-hour cruise along the Chao Phraya, also known as the River of Kings. You’ll also explore the quiet klongs (canals), where you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a more traditional time, unhurried and far removed from Bangkok’s skyscrapers. You’ll stop at the unique, pyramid-like Temple of Dawn (aka Wat Arun), one of Bangkok’s most prominent landmarks.

Next, we’ll drive you to Chinatown to begin a fascinating walking tour through one of Bangkok’s oldest quarters. As you stroll along Yaowarat Road, stop at interesting shops selling shark fins and bird’s nests. Continue walking to a traditional teashop and sip a cup of tea along with the locals before walking down the narrow alley of Trok Leng Moi Eia to Talad Kao, a lively local market where vendors sell all manner of fresh produce, Chinese herbs and spices. End the walk at Wat Leng Nei Yee, the largest Chinese Mahayana Buddhist temple in Bangkok. If you wish, visit the nearby Taoist temple. After returning to your hotel, the rest of the afternoon is free to spend at your leisure.

  • Day 3: Bangkok

Today after an early breakfast, we’ll strike out for Wat Saket, where you can enjoy a serene moment as monks recite their morning prayers. You can gain merit and blessings for a safe, happy trip by making an alms offering to the monks here. Ascend to the temple’s upper levels (also known as the Golden Mount) for panoramic views over Rattanakosin Island accompanied by the chimes of hundreds of small temple bells.

Next, go for a relaxing drive through Bangkok’s historically rich neighborhoods, passing some beautiful landmarks and temples along the way. We’ll stop to buy a “Sangkatarn” offering—a bucket filled with food and necessities for monks—a special kind of offering that we will bring to the resident monks of Wat Ratchabophit. We’ll wrap up the tour at the Tiger God Shrine, an imposing edifice and one of the oldest Taoist temples in Bangkok. The shrine is considered the most popular place of worship among Thailand’s Chinese community.

For lunch, enjoy a sumptuous Thai meal at the elegant setting of the Jim Thompson Restaurant. Feel free to visit the Jim Thompson Museum and the lovely gift shops after lunch.

The afternoon is free to enjoy at your leisure. This might be the perfect time to indulge in a spa treatment at your hotel.

  • Day 4: Bangkok-Chiang Mai

Today after breakfast, your Thailand honeymoon will whisk you to the cooler climes and dark-green mountains of Northern Thailand. After transferring to the airport, you’ll catch the flight to Chiang Mai, the former capital of the Lanna Kingdom. On arrival, you’ll be met by your guide at the airport and transferred to your hotel in a private limousine.

This afternoon, you’ll embark on an exploration of Chiang Mai’s Old City, which is surrounded by an ancient brick wall, moat and imposing gates. You’ll also visit Wat Suan Dok, where the remains of Chiang Mai’s royal family are interred. Continue to historic Jed Yod temple, then ascend Suthep Mountain to reach Wat Phra That Doi Suthep at the summit. This beautiful temple is the most sacred in Northern Thailand. Your expert guide will share insights about the temple, its symbolic white elephant and beautiful murals while leading you around the golden chedi. By this time in the late afternoon, most tourists will have gone and you’ll have the temple nearly to yourself. You’ll receive a private blessing ceremony from a monk and witness the evening chanting. Before heading back down the mountain, drink in the spectacularly romantic view over Chiang Mai, its millions of lights twinkling at dusk.

Tonight for dinner, enjoy a traditional, Northern Thai khantoke meal served on low, circular tables. You’ll dine while being regaled by Northern Thai folk dancing.

  • Day 5: Chiang Mai

Today will be an unforgettable day on your honeymoon in Thailand. Rise early and depart from your hotel at 06:00AM, transferring via deluxe car to a lovely, Northern Thai teak house and restaurant surrounded by a lush garden. (Please note: The hotel will provide you with a boxed breakfast.) At this serene and beautiful destination decorated with scented flowers, you’ll have your traditional Lanna wedding ceremony!

After you’re dressed in traditional Lanna wedding clothes, you’ll participate in a morning wedding ceremony, including a parade with trays of gifts and flowers. Next, your soul (or kwan in Thai) will be ritually cleansed to prepare you for a happy marriage. A head monk will then bless you in a private ceremony. While sweet incense wafts in the air, you’ll be blessed with water and a string will be tied around your wrists to symbolically bind you. To end the ceremony, you’ll plant a love tree together.

After your ceremony, it’s time to celebrate! Enjoy a delicious khao soy lunch—Northern Thailand’s signature dish of coconut curry noodles—at the Lanna house. Your meal will be served in exclusively designed khao soy sets of eight ceramic condiment dishes arranged around a large khao soy bowl.

Upon arrival at the camp, you’ll learn about Asian elephants and receive a safety briefing before changing into your mahout (elephant caretaker) uniform. The morning starts by visiting and interacting with the elephants. You’ll learn how to make ground grass and how to feed the elephants. You’ll also pay a visit to the elephant cemetery and make sticky rice snacks for the elephants to eat in the afternoon. Before enjoying lunch at the camp, take this special opportunity to help bathe the elephants.

This afternoon, you’ll continue learning how the experienced mahouts care for the elephants, accompanying a mahout on a trek to see where the elephants rest in the jungle at night. You’ll feed the elephants a basket of bananas before saying farewell to your new pachyderm friends and returning to your hotel.
