Once you’ve freshened up, you’ll explore the sights of Phnom Penh from the comfort of a traditional cyclo. The first stop will be the famous Royal Palace, which dates back to 1866 and was the last palace built during the French colonial period. There you will also see the Silver Pagoda, where the floor famously comprises more than 5,000 silver tiles. The temple has a unique collection of gold, silver, crystal and bronze Buddhas.

Next you will visit the Khmer-style National Museum, which boasts a collection of over 5,000 ancient Khmer artistic, archaeological and religious artifacts from the 4th to the 13th centuries. An added surprise is that the roof is home to a large bat colony!
Your tour will finish at the founding place of the city, Wat Phnom, which is situated on top of a small hillock and provides a great viewpoint.

  • Day 2: Phnom Penh - Siem Reap

Start your Cambodia and Vietnam tour today with a flight from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, where you will be welcomed by your local guide and transferred to your hotel for check in.

In the afternoon, visit the world-famous Angkor temples starting at Angkor Thom, the last capital of the great Khmer Empire. The city is surrounded by an 8-meter-high and 4-kilometer-long wall that forms a perfect square. You will enter through an impressive stone gate carved with elephants and four giants on the south side. Fifty-four carved gods and demons hold the sacred Naga snake lining each side of the entrance path.

You’ll continue on to Bayon Temple in the center of the city, famous for the 54 towers with four faces, which represent the 54 provinces of the former Great Khmer Empire. You will also see the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, known for their detailed bas-reliefs. Once you have finished exploring this temple, return to your hotel.

After breakfast, continue exploring the Small Circuit Angkor temples by remork, which are local vehicles similar to the Thai tuk tuk. You’ll start at Ta Prohm temple, which was built in the mid 12th to the early 13th centuries. Overgrown by jungle trees and twisted vines, this crumbling temple has been left largely as it was found. The ancient charm of this temple makes it one of the most memorable temples in the complex. You’ll also stop by Banteay Kdei, a 12th-century Buddhist monastery, and Srah Srang, or the “pool of ablutions.” In the midday heat, return to your hotel to relax.
In the afternoon you’ll go on a special tour of magnificent Angkor Wat, which is believed to have taken over 30 years to build. This temple was built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century. The stone bas-relief walls depict Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II fought during his reign. The revered Angkor Wat is also renowned for more than 2,000 Apsara dancers that decorate the temple. Angkor Wat symbolizes the soul of the Khmer people and is featured on the Cambodian national flag—the only flag in the world to depict a building. At the end of your tour, return to your hotel.
