Daily Itinerary

  • Start
  • Day 1: Denpasar - Candidasa

Upon arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar you will be welcomed to Bali by your local Backyard Travel guide and private driver who will then transfer you to Candidasa in the eastern province of Karangasem.

Once you’ve checked in and made yourself at home in your seaside resort you’ll then have the opportunity to experience a unique Balinese Massage with a one-hour ‘his and hers’ indulgence designed to melt away the tension and stress of travel.

Tonight you’ll enjoy a delicious set menu dinner at SeaSalt restaurant set in a traditional Balinese pavilion floating on a lotus pond.

  • Day 2 :Candidasa - Tenganan - Trek Candidasa

After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel your Backyard Travel guide will meet you and escort you to the Aga village of Tenganan. The Bali Aga hill tribe people arrived on the Indonesian island even before the arrival of those from the Majapahit Kingdom of Java and are considered the original settlers on the island.

Tenganan is a fascinating north - south aligned village and is very different to other Balinese villages. The Aga people are well-known for their skills in tie-dye techniques and the art of traditional ikat and basket weaving.

Having soaked up the quaint village atmosphere, you’ll continue through the large stone gates at the end of the village to meet one of the family elders who can trace their family history back hundreds of years.

The villagers will be more than happy to proudly show you their network of wild beehives and give you the chance to taste one of the many varieties of honey produced by the indigenous bees.

Next you’ll take a winding two-hour light trek through rice fields, villages and plantations as you head towards Tirta Gangga.

Tirta Gangga translates as ’water of the Gangges’ and is considered an extremely sacred palace. Built in the early 20th century by the last king of Karangasem, Tirta Gangga boasts many decorative ponds and fountains, lush plant life and natural bathing pools, which you can take a dip in for a small additional charge (you must bring your own bathing clothes and towel). As it is a religious site, swimming costumes are not permitted and shorts and T-shirts are the minimum dress requirement.

For lunch you’ll have the chance to enjoy a delicious and traditional Megibung feast in a bamboo restaurant with views across the surrounding fields and rice terraces, a picturesque site all year round.

In the afternoon you’ll be collected from your hotel by your expert Backyard Travel guide who will escort you to Padang Bai where you’ll board the ‘Paramitha’ for a private 90-minute sunset cruise with unmatched views of Mt. Agung and the colorful Candidasa coastline.

While aboard your private boat you’ll have the chance to enjoy a romantic dinner on the upper deck as you drift peacefully along the scenic river. Cruise complete, your local guide will then return you to your hotel in Candidasa.

  • Day 3: Candidasa - Besakih Temple - Kintamani - Lovina

After breakfast at the hotel you’ll be met by your expert local guide who’ll take you on a journey through small villages and picturesque landscapes, stopping for pictures whenever you choose.

Your first planned stop will be at Besakih Temple, the ‘Mother Temple’ of Bali, located on the western slopes of Mt. Agung, which at 2,567m tall is Bali’s highest volcano. You’ll stop en route in the village of Sibetan to observe skilled workers undertaking traditional weaving and visit a salak plantation where you can sample Bali’s famed ‘snakeskin’ fruit.

Lunch will be taken at Maha Giri restaurant, a dining venue with stunning terraced rice field views set against the dramatic backdrop of Mt. Agung.

Your next stop will be Kintamani, a place that offers spectacular views over Lake Batur and its volcano. Although Mt. Batur is not the highest volcano in Bali, it is the most active and has erupted more than twenty times over the last 200 years.

As you leave Kintamani you’ll pass along winding mountain roads before stopping at the temple of Pura Puncak Penulisan. Here you’ll enjoy spectacular 360 degree views across the valley - a site that’s well worth the steep climb up the long staircase. The Pura Puncak Penulisan temple also holds a vast collection of statues of previous Balinese kings and queens dating back as early as the 10th century.

You’ll then continue to the volcanic sand beaches of Northern Bali, arriving in the late afternoon. Here you can relax and unwind before returning to your resort in Lovina for a romantic dinner.

  • Day 4: Lovina

Today you’ll have the chance to spend your time as you please, either enjoying the many resort facilities or take to the beach to engage in some watersports or simply sup cocktails and join in with the fellow sun worshippers.

Should you crave a more active way to pass the time, be sure to consult your expert local guide for their advice on what to do and where to go in the nearby area.

  • Day 5: Lovina - Organic Lunch - Banjar Hot Springs - Munduk

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and perhaps one last swim in the idyllic ocean before your driver and guide arrive to pick you up at a pre-arranged time. You’ll then head to the Banjar Hot Springs, taking an organic lunch in a restaurant nestled amongst rice paddies and gardens along the Bali Straits.

After lunch, you’ll have the chance to submerge in the healing waters of the sacred Banjar Hot Springs. These charming hot springs, set amidst lush tropical gardens, comprise two main pools with warm water continuously replenishing the levels from the mouths of numerous dragon statues, or Naga’s as they are locally known.

After your refreshing dip you’ll continue on to Munduk in the cool central highlands of Bali. Once you’ve arrived in Munduk you’ll have the chance to take afternoon tea as you enjoy outstanding views across the valley, all the way to the Java Sea.

You’ll enjoy a candlelit dinner in total privacy tonight, surrounded by water with unobscured views of the dramatic skyline.

  • Day 6: Lovina - Ulun Danu - Jatiluwih - Ubud

Munduk is a wonderful location to enjoy outdoor activities and after breakfast this morning you’ll have the chance to take part in a light one-hour exploration of the Coffee & Clove Plantations. Along the way you’ll learn all about the processes and techniques used to grow the perfect coffee bean.

In the late morning, your guide and driver will take you south to a vantage point overlooking Buyan and Tamblingan, two superb volcanic lakes. Along the way you’ll have plenty of chances to pause for photos and enjoy the scenery and also make a stop at the Pura Ulun Danu water temple before arriving in the quaint village of Bedugul.

The water temple of Pura Ulun Danu, which is dedicated to Dewi Danu the goddess of water, was founded in the 17th century and is one of the most photographed sites in Bali.

After visiting the water temple you’ll continue through the surrounding vegetable farms before taking lunch overlooking picturesque rice terraces. Lunch taken, you’ll then continue to the delicate rice terraces of Jatiluwih - the oldest on the idyllic island.

In the mid-afternoon you’ll arrive at the scenic area of Marga and check-in to your resort in Ubud where you’ll enjoy a 30 minute in-Villa head and shoulder massage.

No visit to Bali would be complete without taking in a traditional Indonesian dance performance and in Ubud this evening you’ll be treated to a special recital. You’ll then take a late dinner at one of Bali’s top restaurant where you can enjoy the freshest local ingredients with a Western twist in the ‘Discovery Menu’ of the award-winning Mosaic Restaurant.

  • Day 7: Ubud

After breakfast this morning you’ll be taken to central Ubud by your guide where you will meet a local chef who will be your teacher for the day, and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee while you enjoy a short briefing on the program for your day ahead.

Along with your chef-cum-teacher, you’ll go to visit one of the busy local food markets to learn about the complexities of regional Indonesian cuisines and observe the buzzing market trade and see, feel and smell the exotic fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices available.

Once you’ve learned about the ingredients, it’s time to study the techniques of preparation. Together with the chef and your guide, you’ll make your way to a traditional Balinese Kitchen via a tour of the rice paddies. Under the expert gaze of the chef you’ll prepare a delicious selection of dishes and also experience the authentic coconut-oil processing technique.

Once you’ve flexed your culinary muscles you’ll sit down and feast upon the delicious products of your efforts.

Fully sated, your expert local guide and driver will then take you to visit the Rudana Art Museum where you will learn more about the symbolism of this remarkable building. You will also have the chance to take a private walking tour along with an expert custodian at the museum, to help you understand the collection of fine arts within.

In the afternoon you’ll have plenty of time to explore the varied streets of Ubud at your leisure before you enjoy a relaxing 60-minute spa treatment back at the resort to help soothe any aching limbs. Later you’ll be treated to an exquisite five-course candlelit dining experience, ending your day with a decadent meal.

  • Day 8: Ubud - Seminyak

This morning you’ll have the chance to take a leisurely bike ride through the quiet villages of Bongkasa. This relaxed ride drifts by beautiful rice paddy terraces, cacao plantations and quaint village roads.

As reward for you efforts in the morning, in the afternoon you’ll head to the sun-kissed beaches of Southern Bali where you can relax and enjoy the beach lifestyle.

After soaking up some rays you’ll arrive at your 200-sq-m Villa with private pool. Your evening will be spent at your leisure.

  • Day 9: Seminyak

After breakfast at the hotel, today is free to spend however you please, entirely at your own leisure. Your expert local guide can give you hints and tips of where to go and what to do, so be sure to ask their advice should you need any ideas.
