Go to Candidasa in the east of Bali. Stop on the way to visit the small fishing village of Kusumba, with its salt-making huts and colorful fishing boats. Explore the less-visited province of Karangasem. First stop is the sacred water palace of Tirta Gannga; with beautiful ponds, bathing pools and lush vegetation. Trek to the ancient village of Tenganan, home to the first inhabitants of Bali. Visit a fruit plantation growing the famous ’Salak’ or ’snakeskin’ fruit.

See the Mother Temple of Bali, Besakih and hop on a bike for a ride around a peaceful area passing paddy fields and plantations growing coffee, cocoa and cloves. Have a good look around Ubud. See its beautiful rice fields and move on to palaces, museums and local markets. Enjoy a local lunch before indulging in a Balinese massage at a local spa.

In the evening, go to a nearby village to see a performance of traditional Balinese dancing. Depart by road through hidden routes in the island’s interior to Jatiluwih and a panoramic view of Bali’s iconic rice terraces. See Batukaru temple, one of nine big temples in Bali. Next, drive to the ’floating’ temple of Ulun Danu, set in the middle of a scenic lake. Take a two hour trek through plantations growing avocado, vanilla, coffee and cloves. Drive along one of the most scenic roads in Bali and head past jungle-covered mountains and rice terraces. See Bali’s most famous temple, Tanah Lot, set on a small island in the sea; an iconic sight.

Daily Itinerary

  • Start
  • Day 1: Candidasa

    Arrive this afternoon at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar where you will be greeted by your Backyard Travel local guide. A private transfer (approximately 2 hours) takes you to Candidasa in Karangasem, Bali’s eastern province. Stop en route at the coastal fishing village of Kusumba, to observe the colourful fishing boats lined up all along the beach as well as the small salt-making huts. Check in at your hotel in Candidasa where the remainder of today is at leisure.

  • Day 2: Candidasa-Karangasem-Candidasa

    Today you will explore the less-visited province of Karangasem. First stop is the ‘water of the Ganges’, the sacred water palace of Tirta Gannga; with beautiful ponds, bathing pools and lush vegetation.

    Next, start trekking to the ancient village of Tenganan. This village is home to the first inhabitants of Bali; the Aga people, and you can explore the village’s ancient architecture, observing the weavers making baskets and other items in the ancient ‘double ikat’ fashion.

    Afterwards, head back to your hotel, where the rest of your day is free at leisure.

  • Day 3: Candidasa

    Take a drive through scenic back roads to Sibetan village to see locals do their traditional weaving. You’ll also visit a fruit plantation growing the famous ‘Salak’ or ‘snakeskin’ fruit.

    Then see the Mother Temple of Bali, Besakih; the most important on the island.

    Try delicious, fresh Balinese dishes for lunch at Maha Giri restaurant. Hop on a bike after lunch for a ride around the peaceful area of Sidemen; passing paddy fields and plantations growing coffee, cocoa and cloves.

    Drive next to visit the former Royal Courts of Justice or "Kerta Gosa", at Klunkung, before heading to Ubud and checking in to your hotel.

  • Day 4: Ubud

    Start early today for a good look around Ubud. See its beautiful rice fields and move on to palaces, museums and local markets.

    You will also see the Royal residence at the 16th century palace; where the Royals still live.

    End with a visit to Ubud market, filled with food and handicrafts.

    Enjoy lunch at Indus Restaurant, before indulging in a Balinese massage at a local spa. This evening, go to a nearby village to see a performance of traditional Balinese dancing. Afterwards, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

  • Day 5: Batukaru

    After breakfast at your hotel, depart by road through hidden routes in the island’s interior. You’ll be awestruck at Jatiluwih when you reach the panoramic view of Bali’s iconic rice terraces. Located on a slope near the holy mountain of Batukaru, this area is known as the rice granary of Bali. Nearby is Batukaru temple, one of nine big temples in Bali. It is situated at the foot of the second highest mountain in Bali (2671m), just after Mt. Agung. Next, drive to the ‘floating’ temple of Ulun Danu, set in the middle of a scenic lake.

    We will continue to the lakes of Buyan and Tamblingam, where you can stop to take photos. Towards evening arrive in the remote area of Munduk. Once checked in and freshened up, enjoy dinner at the hotel.

  • Day 6: Tanah Lot

    Take a two hour trek this morning through Munduk, starting at your hotel. Pass plantations growing avocado, vanilla, coffee and cloves; finally reaching the beautiful Red Coral waterfall before heading back to Munduk a different way.

    Drive along one of the most scenic roads in Bali and stop for lunch. After lunch we will head past jungle-covered mountains and rice terraces towards the West Coast of Bali. Later in the afternoon, see Bali’s most famous temple, Tanah Lot, set on a small island in the sea; an iconic sight. Afterwards, transfer to your beach hotel or the airport for your onward flight.
