As a coastal country, it’s surprising the Vietnam often gets overlooked by international travelers as a beach destination—perhaps because of its proximity to the renowned beaches of Thailand and Indonesia. But Vietnam is home to some lesser-known and truly idyllic tropical beach getaways in Asia.
Take Phu Quoc Island, for example. We’ll wager you might not have heard of it, or if you have, you’re not aware of the white-sand treasures it houses. Although there are numerous beach resorts offering luxury accommodations along the developed stretch of Long Beach, the island is still largely untouched by mass development. Phu Quoc offers the perfect location for that elusive phenomenon in Southeast Asia, the quiet beach vacation. It also offers rustic fishing villages, dense forests and fantastic seafood.
The coastal city of Nha Trang, on the other hand, in south-central Vietnam, is a beach destination well known by domestic and international travelers. It offers the perfect combination of (mostly) year round sunny days, white sand, and turquoise waters. Popular among divers, Nha Trang beaches are also home to large choice of five-star accommodations and sumptuous spa resorts, offering a little bit of something for everyone.

For what is perhaps the most pristine beach in Vietnam, head to Dat Doc, a quiet crescent of white sand—and the ideal place to forget your worries—on Con Son, one of the many tropical islands of the Con Dao Islands. Located off the far-southern coast of Vietnam where the Gulf of Thailand meets the South China Sea, the Con Dao Island National Park are home to deserted white-sand alcoves, endemic species, and a seaside setting akin to a lost paradise.
While you can get killer seafood and endless, powdery beaches at Quy Nhon in central Vietnam, the beaches of the UNESCO-listed port town of Hoi An offer history and culture with your sun tanning. The best time to visit Hoi An is March through September, when the sun is shining, skies are blue, and room rates actually decline, as this is the low season in most of Vietnam.
