Thailand’s capital Bangkok provides a real mix between old and new and is undoubtedly one of Asia’s most fascinating cities to visit. The ‘City of Angel’s’ is where Backyard Travel’s General Manager Maeve Nolan calls home and as a keen amateur photographer there is nothing more she likes doing that to wonder through different parts of the city, camera in hand, snapping away at a local life. Here she gives us a peak into local life in her adopted city.
“Bangkok’s Talad Noi district is part of China Town and one of the oldest part’s of the city. The area is known for it’s quaint alleys full of scrap metal and machinery parts, ready to be re-used in one way or another. I came across this workshop which just specialised in restoring MG cars.’
“I love Yen Ta Fo, it’s one of my favorite Thai dishes. Here is how all the ingredients look before being thrown together to create the tasty pink colored noodle soup.”
“I love these frescos that I came across at a ‘Wat’ on the edge of Bangkok’s China Town. ‘Wat’ means Temple in Thai and although the likes of Wat Pho and Wat Arun are a must visit when in Bangkok, I thoroughly recommend to veer from the main tourist routes and discover some of the beautiful smaller temples throughout the city”
“Fresh coconut ice cream is a particular favorite of mine and is found throughout Bangkok, best served from a fresh coconut of course. This hidden gem sells Bangkok’s best ice cream and they’ve got the awards displayed on the walls to prove it!”
“Motorcycle taxis are everywhere in Bangkok and are used by locals to get from A to B quickly in the busy rush hour traffic. This image displays the photos, names and IDs of motorcycle taxi drivers at a stand outside the Terminal 21 Shopping Center in Sukhumvit”
“Wires and architecture. I love the lines in this picture; taken nearby by to Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River, close to Saphan Thaksin Pier.
