We were running a photography competition where we are asking entrants to give us a taste of what life is like in their ‘Backyard”. The best entrant will win the incredible prize of $8,000 to spend on dream trip in Asia. Having recently joined us from the UK, our new Marketing Manager Christian is a keen amateur photographer and decided to share some of his favorite photographs taken in Asia, his new ‘Backyard’.
“I took this photo of these posing boys in Yangon, Myanmar. It was just before the New Year Water Festival of Thingyan and many of the local children dye their hair in all sorts of interesting colors in preparation for it. You can also see that the boys have the famous ‘Thanaka’ on their faces, providing a traditional contrast to their colorful quiffs!”
“I spotted these interesting pieces of art in a beach side café in the small surfing town of Batu Karas on the island of Java, Indonesia. The waves were full of young surfers pulling off some extraordinary tricks, with their boards seemingly glued to their feet. The café’s walls were full of photographs of the local boys and I recognized many of the youngsters who had put me to shame earlier on in the day, whilst I struggled to even stand up on my longboard!”
“Room for a small one?! Taxi’s come in all sorts of forms in Asia and I thought this simple side-car summed up the relaxed island life pretty well on the idyllic Thai island of Koh Mak. The island has some of the best beaches I’ve seen in Asia, and with just the one short road, there’s never too much of a worry that your cabbie might not know where to go!”
“The mystical Angkor Wat in Cambodia is one of the most visited temples in the world and you can easily find yourself sharing the stunning site with the masses if your visit isn’t planned carefully. Whilst everyone waited outside to take pictures of the sun rising over the site at dawn, I decide to buck the trend and enter the complex, having the place pretty much to myself for 45 minutes or so.”
“Bangkok surely has the best street food on the planet. This picture is taken on Sukhumvit Soi 38, which is locally known as THE place to go for the tastiest treats. From sticky mango rice to mouthwatering meat skewers, the road has something for everyone”
If you have some equally inspiring photos of your very own ‘Backyard’ then why not submit the very best one to us via our Facebook competition and stand the chance of winning the incredible $8,000 prize. The competition runs till December and we have also be giving out additional prizes for the best monthly entrants.
