Hong Kong is a dramatic and iconic city packed full of high-end bars and restaurants and unbeatable shopping options. With high-rise skyscrapers around each corner, it’s no question that this densely populated isle offers some of the world’s best bars in which to enjoy a sublime sunset. We asked our China-based Travel Specialist Thomas Huang to suggest five of his favorite places in Hong Kong for a ‘cocktail with a view’.
While WoolooMooloo Steakhouse may be considered more a restaurant than a bar, there’s no questioning the spectacular views the Wan Chai outlet offers on its stunning open air terrace. Found on the rooftop of the 31-storey Hennessy building, WoolooMooloo is a prime location to appreciate the sultry Hong Kong skyline with views of the Victoria Harbour and Wan Chai district – an ideal place for a sundowner or two.
The boutique Upper House hotel occupies floors 37-50 of Pacific Place building on Hong Kong Island and offers seductive views from their Café Gray Bar. The sexy bar is a prime destination to watch the sun drop down over the picturesque Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong’s many idyllic islands that dot the waters nearby.
Renowned as one of the swankiest bars in Hong Kong, SEVVA is a penthouse bar on the top of the Prince’s Building in central. Owned by Hong Kong style icon Bonnie Gokson, the chic rooftop bar is a magnet for the city’s glamorous darlings, all drawn by the exquisite cocktails and magnificent panoramic views.
Sugar is perched on top of the hip and stylish East hotel and offers picturesque views of central Hong Kong from its open-air terrace. Laid back and luxurious, the bar has fashioned itself for the trendy after-work crowd for sundowner cocktails in an ambient setting, a great place to warm up before venturing out for a big night on the tiles.
Rooftop bars are of course wonderful locations to see a dramatic sunset unfold, but Hong Kong isn’t all skyscrapers and sophistication. Approximately 75% of the territory is islands, destinations filled with trees, greenery and beaches. Shek O Country Park is one such nature-filled playground which our ‘Hong Kong at a Glance’ tour visits with a trek around the hilly park, coming to rest at Big Wave Bay – a popular spot for surfers, beach lovers, sun-worshippers and sunset seekers. This is a favorite spot for many locals to enjoy watching the sun gracefully set over the ocean armed with a chilled cocktail or ice-cold beer.
If you’re heading to Hong Kong and would like to find out more about where to go and what to do, feel free to contact our Travel Specialist Thomas Huang, who will be happy to offer his expert advice or tailor any Hong Kong tour to include any of the locations above.
