The Easter holidays are a great time to travel, as you can take advantage of the international low season.
However, deciding where to go can be a challenge. With so many options, how do you choose a continent, let alone a country?
As residents of Asia, we believe this part of the world offers some of the most amazing travel experiences year-round.
But what makes the Easter period special, and what do we love to do at this time of year?
Kick back at one of the region’s many beaches, see Vietnam’s terraced rice paddies during the planting season, experience the Buddhist New Year and its raucous water fights, seek out exotic wildlife in steamy Borneo and visit our favorite spots now that the peak season crowds have dispersed.
Read on for six reasons to hop on over and join us for the Easter holidays this year.
Six Reasons to Travel to Asia for Easter Holidays
Reason #1 – Avoid the Crowds
There are fewer tourists in Asia during Easter Holidays compared to the summer months, meaning smaller crowds at the most fascinating historical sights and beautiful scenic destinations.
In our view, not having to fight through large groups makes visiting a destination much better!
Reason #2 – Visit dry-season Indonesia before the crowds arrive
The rainy season is finally over, and with autumn arriving around Easter we believe this is a prime time to visit this stunning archipelago.
The interiors of the countless islands which make up Indonesia are verdant green, while the seas are calm and blue, creating the perfect holiday combination!
We love being able to explore, swim, eat and repeat to our heart’s content!

Reason #3 – Witness the rice planting season in Vietnam
Vietnam’s terraced rice paddies are a great example of human ingenuity, in addition to being one of the most striking sights in the country’s north.
We’re certain that visiting this area during the Easter holidays allows you to see the terraces at their most verdant.
Even better, the last time we were there during a visit, the local hill tribes members were out in force, and they are happy to stop for a chat while working.
We’ve found that it is harder to meet and interact with locals during other times of the year when fewer people are out in the fields, meaning April is the ideal time to visit Vietnam.
Reason #4 – Experience Buddhist New Year & Water Festival fun
Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia all celebrate the Buddhist New Year in April.
The festivities range in size and energy in each country, but all feature massive water fights that are among our favorite ways to have fun in the region.
The new year holiday isn’t just fun and games though, as many sombre, ancient traditions such as ancestor worship are still followed as well.
Reason #5 – Love the pristine nature and wildlife in Borneo
The end of the wet season in Borneo brings out the island’s huge array of wild animals, as they enjoy the fruits of the dry season when many trees flower.
Visit incredible locations deep in the old-growth jungle, where we’ve seen wild orangutans, hornbills, pygmy elephants, leopard cats, proboscis monkeys and more in their natural environment.

Reason #6 – Get a summer (or winter!)-ready tan
Get a head start on summer, or welcome winter, by tanning yourself on the coast of, say, Ngapali on the Bay of Bengal in Myanmar, one of the best Easter sun destinations.
The cultural pursuits of Central Vietnam, meanwhile, are also near some of the country’s top beaches, which are stunning during the Easter period.
Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan along Thailand’s east coast are also amazing during the April period, and we guarantee the weather will be dry and sunny!
