We are currently running a fantastic photography competition where entrants stand the chance of winning an amazing price of an $8,000 dream trip in Asia. We have been asking for inspirational photographs of your own village, town or city so we can get a taste of what life is like in your very own “Backyard”. So far some amazing photographs have been sent in and we thought that we would feature some of our personal favorites from the last month.
Young monk novices look out through the windows of an ancient monastery in Bagan, Myanmar (Burma). The intricacies of the wooden carvings above the windows can also be clearly seen in Pyae Sone Oo’s lovely photograph.
Biswajit Patra’ colorful photograph shows these men from West Bengal painting their faces. The art form is known as ‘Bohurupi’, meaning a character with many faces.
Arshad Afridi took this brilliant photograph of a goat farmer and his herd in the mountains of Afghanistan. A country sadly recently more synonymous with war, the photograph highlights how beautiful this part of the world really is.
Unmistakably Rio de Janeiro. Luiz FerNando Donato’s photograph highlights life on one of the world’s most famous beaches, Ipanema.
Abhi Ghosh took this wonderful photograph of a blacksmith hard at work in Satipur, north of Calcutta in India.
Berns Gilina-Murphy’s atmospheric photograph is from the tiny train station of Manuel-L.enova in the Albaida Valley, just outside of Valencia in Spain.
The competition runs till December and we will also be giving out additional prizes for the best monthly entrants. So don’t forget to send in the very best picture of your own “Backyard”!
